On November 29, 2018 the 7th Tajikistan- EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in the European Parliament in Brussels.
The meeting was attended by a group of deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan under the leadership of Mr.Sharif Rahimzoda - Chair of the Economy and Finance Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and a group of Members of the European Parliament led by Mrs.Iveta Grigule Peterse - Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
During the meeting, the participants discussed a number of current topics, including the priority objectives of the National Development Strategy up to 2030, political, trade and investment climate in Tajikistan, reforms carried out in the economic and social spheres, human rights and freedoms, position of people with disabilities in the society, the rule of law, the EU Strategy for Central Asia, as well as other relevant issues.
Special attention was paid to the regional and international issues, such as the fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as the situation in Afghanistan and the role of Tajikistan and European Union in achieving peace in this country.
Environmental protection and agricultural development were also important issues that were discussed at the meeting.
