On November 4, 2016, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Muzaffar Huseinzoda held a meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mr. Lukas Parizek, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the inter-ministerial political consultations between Tajikistan and Slovakia. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Tashkent) Mr. Pavol Ivan.
The Slovak Republic is the acting chair in the Council of the European Union as of June 1, 2016.
After the meeting, political consultations between Tajikistan and Slovakia were held with the participation of delegations of both sides. During the consultations the parties discussed issues of bilateral and multilateral relations between Tajikistan and the Slovak Republic, Tajikistan's cooperation with the European Union, including in the period of the Slovak Presidency of the EU, and within the framework of international organizations, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
It should be noted that within the framework of working visit to Tajikistan, the official delegation of the Slovak Republic is accompanied by a group of leading Slovak entrepreneurs who participated in a business roundtable of Tajikistan and Slovakia. The event focused on finding opportunities to expand trade and economic ties between the two countries, establishing direct contacts between the Tajik and Slovak entrepreneurs and investors, as well as the implementation of joint cooperation projects.
