On 20 September 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Germany, Imomudin Sattorov, paid a working visit to Düsseldorf (North Rhine-Westphalia).

During the visit, the Ambassador met with the prominent German artist and sculptor Günther Uecker.

During the meeting, the Ambassador spoke about Tajik history and culture, ancient traditions and achievements since independence.

Günther Uecker, for his part, stressed that Tajikistan indeed has an ancient history and culture, as well as impressive nature and is an attractive destination for visitors.

In this context, the Ambassador invited Günther Uecker to visit Tajikistan in 2025 and present his works in Dushanbe, including the famous exhibition "Homage to Hafiz", inspired by the poems of Hafiz Sherozi. The Ambassador's offer was gladly accepted.

It is worth mentioning that one of the art spaces in the Bundestag building - the German Parliament - was entirely designed by Günther Uecker on the theme of world religions, using minimalist artistic and architectural techniques to create a suitable space for spiritual and religious reflection.

For information: Günther Uecker was born on 13 March 1930 in Wendorf, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

As a painter and sculptor, Uecker devoted all his creative energy to the liberation of art and went down in art history as a member of the ZERO Group. His experiences as a survivor of the Second World War were profound and formative for the artist. Like a seismograph, Uecker senses and recognises the connecting narratives on the different continents of the world. Uecker builds vital connections between different systems of language, values and symbols; in his art, cognition and action become one through empathy.

Günther Uecker has received numerous honours, including the State Prize of the Imperial Ring in 1983, the German Order of Merit for Science and Art in 2000 and the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit for Special Services to the Federal Republic of Germany in 2006.

His work has taken him all over the world, including Germany, the USA, Iran, Cuba, Spain, Austria, Brazil, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.
