Cooperation in cultural, scientific fields and Diaspora

Cultural cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Federal Republic of Germany is regulated by the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Culture of August 22, 1995, which entered into force on June 18, 2003.

Cultural cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany is closely carried out in the field of learning the German language, expanding ties between higher education institutions and secondary schools. Since 2010, a center for the study of the German language has been operating in the city of Dushanbe, which is funded by the Goethe Institute. In addition, German specialists teach in two gymnasiums in the cities of Dushanbe and Khujand.

Through the Information Center of the German Academic Exchange Service (Der Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst), which has been operating in Tajikistan until 2019, also through Goethe Institute and the Pedagogical Exchange Service, a number of scientists, students and pupils of secondary educational schools of Tajikistan visit Germany for taking training courses or further improving of their qualification.

The National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan and the Ahmad Donisch Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan together with the German Archeology Institute (Das Deutsche Archäologische Institut) have been conducting archaeological excavations in various regions of Tajikistan for several years on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding. Till now, German archaeologists have conducted archaeological excavations in the Dangara, Khovaling, Vose, Kangurt and Farhor districts of the Khatlon region and have found unique historical findings.

The Institute for International Relations of the Association of German Public Universities (DVV International) and the German Foundation for International Cooperation in the Field of Law (IRZ) are other German organizations that have ongoing cooperation with Tajik authorities.

In April 11, 2005, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the National University of Tajikistan and the Philippe University of Marburg (Die Philipps-Universität Marburg).

A good cooperation has been established between the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Aini and the Humboldt University of Berlin (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) in the field of teaching Tajik and German languages, as well as student exchange.

Since 1990, Dushanbe and the German city of Reutlingen have been wallowing with twin cities.

From the more than 39,000 ethnic Germans who lived in Tajikistan, all but 1,000 have returned to their historic Homeland. The German-Tajik Friendship Society operates in Germany, the main purpose of which is to represent Tajik culture, organize educational trips and cultural events.

Currently, various youth and student organizations of Tajiks in Germany are being formed.

There is a restaurant in Berlin called the Tajik Teahouse (Tadschikische Teestube), which is decorated in the national Tajik style and serves residents and guests of the German capital every day.

Since 1996, the humanitarian society Friedensdorf International is also operating in Tajikistan.
