Bruxelles, on October 25, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin took part in the Global Gateway Forum of the European Union.

During the opening address, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlined the EU's future objectives under the #GlobalGateway initiative and urged countries to foster closer collaboration.

The delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin, participated and addressed at the high-level panel "Green energy transition and green hydrogen" in the Global Gateway Forum. In his presentation on the country's existing potential, Sirojiddin Muhriddin identified the hydropower sector as one of the main pillars of the "green transition" and the main source of green hydrogen production. It was noted that the Republic of Tajikistan, having adopted the "Green Economy Strategy", has laid the foundations for the transition to a green economy and intends to double the production of electricity from renewable sources by 2050.

The Foreign Minister also noted that Tajikistan has natural resources and critical raw materials that are needed by industrialised countries. He called on cooperation partners and financial institutions to use existing opportunities to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the parties.

In high-level panels at the Global Gateway Forum, representatives from countries around the world exchange views on the green transition, renewable energy production, transport corridors, as well as education, research and health.

The EU Global Gateway initiative was announced in 2021 and meets once a year with the participation of representatives of countries, international organisations and financial institutions, as well as representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organisations.

The European Union intends to collaborate with nations globally in green energy and hydrogen production, creating transportation corridors, and advancing healthcare and education. The initiative aims to attract 300 billion euros.

Tajikistan's hydropower reserves, green energy generation, and raw material extraction and processing, along with the development of alternative transportation routes, fall under the umbrella of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union as part of the Global Gateway initiative.
