The EU Special Representative for Central Asia visited Tajikistan

The EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Ambassador Peter Burian visited Tajikistan 17-23 May.

On May 21, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin received the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation within the framework of the European Union and Central Asia, the New EU Strategy for the region, and Europe’s programs in Tajikistan.

The interlocutors noted the importance of developing relations between the European Union and Tajikistan in the formats of Cooperation Council, Cooperation Committee, as well as political and security and human rights dialogues.

The issues related to security and stability in the region, the situation in Afghanistan, and threats of terrorism and extremism were also discussed in the meeting.

Ambassador Burian has also met with Deputy Prime Minister Davlatali Said, Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Finance Faiziddin Qahhorzoda,  First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Nuraliev Jamoliddin to discuss key issues of cooperation between the EU and Tajikistan.
