Bilateral Relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt were established on April 1, 1993. Egypt recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 1, 1992.
The first high-level meeting between the heads of two states - the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hosni Mubarak was held in December 1994 in the margins of the 7th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. On February 4, 2007 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The President of Egypt Muhammad Hosni Mubarak sincerely welcomed the President of Tajikistan. During the conversation the President of the Republic of Tajikistan stressed the importance of developing friendly relations between the two countries, in particular, stated: “Strengthening and expanding friendly relations with the Arab Republic of Egypt, one of the cradles of human civilization and at the same time influential Arab countries and the Islamic world. It is important for the regional and international policy of the Republic of Tajikistan. "
Six documents were signed during the official visit:
1. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on economic, technical and scientific cooperation;
2. Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce of the Arab Republic of Egypt;
3. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on cooperation in the field of energy;
4. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on cooperation in the fight against crime;
5. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on cooperation in the field of culture;
6. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on cooperation in the field of education.

In 2017, two fruitful meetings were held between the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdulfattah al-Sisi, one on May 20 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on the eve of the Summit of Arab and Muslim States and the other on September 5. in Xiamen (China) in the framework of the Dialogue of Developing Countries and BRICS countries.
 During the talks, the two leaders praised the level and content of relations and cultural and historical commonalities between the two countries, emphasizing the need to further expand bilateral relations and exchange experiences in various fields that benefit both countries.
The official visit of the President of Tajikistan to Egypt in 2007 marked a qualitatively new stage of cooperation.
