General Background of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Islamic Republic of Pakistan was one the first countries who officially recognized the Independence of the Republic Tajikistan.

Starting from June 6, 1992 between the Islamic Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Tajikistan was established diplomatic relation, however, its foundation have already been laid since early 1991.

Islamic Republic of Pakistan opened its Embassy in Dushanbe, but officially it started operating from early 1994.

Republic of Tajikistan started its bilateral cooperation with opening Consulate in 1997, but Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan was began its activity from February 23, 2005 in Islamabad. 

Аt present time, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is H.E. Mr.Ismatullo Nasredin, who started his mission on February 2019.    

However, in the Republic of Tajikistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were appointed H.E. Mr.Imran Haider, since June 2019.

For the developing of the bilateral cooperation, both countries – Republic of Tajikistan and Islamic Republic of Pakistan were intended many efforts. During the 27 years of the relationship these cooperation were strengthened and expanded with state, official and working visits of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Mr. Emomali Rahmon, (1994,1996,1997, 2004, 2011, 2015 and 2017)

In response to these, the Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as, paid visits to the Republic of Tajikistan in state, official and working formats (2-3 June 2002, 28-30 July 2009, 1-2 September 2011, 24-26 March 2012 and 19-22 June 2018)

For the basis of the expending cooperation and strengthening bilateral documents, the significant role have the official and working visits of the Ministers of foreign Affairs of the Republic Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan took placed on  December 1998, 29-31 January 2004, 20-21 November 2014 and 8-9 December 2015.

From the Islamic Republic of Pakistan side, as well as, were paid response official and working visits by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of this country on April 2002, 1-2 September 2011, and 11-12 October 2018.

Until these days, between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Dushanbe and Islamabad were held four rounds of Bilateral Consultations (first, on January 11, 2013, Dushanbe city, second, on May 4, 2015 in Islamabad city, third, on February 9, 2016 (Dushanbe city)   and fourth round of political consultations on April 26, 2018 (Islamabad city).

More than 56 inter-governmental and special sector agreements, memorandum of understandings and protocols are playing the key roles on strengthening the legal framework on bilateral relations.

Between Tajikistan and Pakistan functions permanent mechanism under the title Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which is considered one of the methods development bilateral economic cooperation.  It is worth noting that, until these days there were held 6 (six) meetings of present Commission: first meeting, on May 2004, in Islamabad; second, on October 2006, in Dushanbe; third, on June 21, 2009, in Islamabad; fourth February 28 2011, in Dushanbe; fifth on June 15-16, 2016 in Islamabad and the sixth Intergovernmental Commission, held on July 2-3, 2019 in Dushanbe.   

Tajikistan and Pakistan Business Forum took place in Dushanbe and Islamabad on July 18-20, 2010; 8-9 March, 2011 and 24-26 May, 2017.

In addition to these during the State visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (on November 12-13, 2015), was established Joint Tajikistan – Pakistan Business Council and its first meeting was held in Islamabad.

The second meeting of mentioned Council held in Dushanbe on July 5, 2017 in the framework of the visit of Prime Minister of Pakistan to the Republic of Tajikistan.

At present time, between the other spheres of cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan and Islamic Republic of Pakistan, more priorities given to cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, security, military and implementation of the CASA-1000 project.        

In 2007-2019, various entities of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan contributed 14.0 million US dollars to the economy of our country. This includes 443.5 thousand US dollars of direct investment and 13.44 million US dollars, other types of investments in the form of loans attracted by enterprises and organizations.
