Diplomatic relation between the Republic of Tajikistan the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were established in June 6, 1992.
Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan started its operations in Dushanbe in 1994.
In 1997 General Consulate of the Republic of Tajikistan was opened in Islamabad and from February 23, 2005 Tajikistan Embassy started activity in Pakistan.
During 27 years of relationships the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Mr. Emomali Rahmon has paid official and working visits to Pakistan in 1994,1996,1997, 2004, 2011, 2015 and 2017.
Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan visited Tajikistan on 2-3 June 2002, 28-30 July 2009, 1-2 September 2011, 24-26 March 2012 and 19-22 June 2018.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan have paid several visits to Pakistan on December 1998, 29-31 January 2004, 20-21 November 2014 and 8-9 December 2015.
Pakistan Foreign Ministers visited Tajikistan on April 2002, 1-2 September 2011, and 11-12 October 2018.
More than 56 bilateral documents in different spheres constitute the legal basis of relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan.
Despite the good level of political collaboration and cooperation in military and security sphere indicators of trade and economic relations are needed to be improved. According to Tajikistan side statistic trade turnover between Tajikistan and Pakistan in 2019 is $56, 290 million, while in 2018 those indicators are $62,547 million, reflecting the decrease in bilateral trade.
