4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018-2028) will be held on May 25-28, 2026,

Water is the source of life, connecting people, ecosystems, and the planet itself. However, the world is facing a growing water crisis, from floods and droughts to pollution and melting glaciers.

Thanks to bold leadership and sustained global cooperation, Tajikistan has been at the forefront of the international water agenda for more than two decades, initiating key UN resolutions and international actions, including the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018-2028).

The 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018-2028) will be held on May 25-28, 2026, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be an important platform for governments, international organizations, scientists, youth, and civil society to accelerate action towards achieving SDG 6 — “Clean Water and Sanitation for All” and other internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The main goal of the Conference is to strengthen cooperation and create a favorable basis for taking concrete action to address global water issues and support the implementation of water-related Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development.” At the same time, this conference is a key event in the preparation for the UN Water Conference in 2026 and informal consultations and discussions with stakeholders on the UN Water Conference in 2028, which will be held in Tajikistan.
