Relations of Tajikistan with Pakistan

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were established on June 6, 1992. Cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan dates back to 1991.

In 1993, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan opened its Embassy in the Republic of Tajikistan, and its activities began in early 1994.

Bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is progressively developing through joint efforts. For 27 years of relations, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid 7 official and state visits to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (March 1994, 1996, 1997, May 12-14, 2004, March 7-10, 2011, November 12-13, 2015 and 2 -3 June 2021).

Also, on March 1, 2017, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to participate in the 13th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Islamabad.

On June 2, 2021, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to Pakistan, during which 12 cooperation documents were signed.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan paid three official and working visits to Tajikistan (June 2-3, 2002, July 28-30, 2009, March 24-26, 2012). Also in recent years, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif paid an official and working visit to Dushanbe (June 17-18, 2014, June 9-10, 2015 (working visit to participate in the conference "Water for Life"), 11- May 12, 2016 (opening ceremony of construction work on the CASA-1000 project) and July 5-6, 2017 (official visit to participate in the meeting of the heads of state and government of the countries participating in the CASA-1000 project).

On March 31, 2021, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, a bilateral meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mahdum Shah Mahmud Qurayshi, who was in Dushanbe on an official visit to participate in the Ninth Conference of Foreign Ministers "Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process "March 29-31, 2021.

The two countries have an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which is one of the main mechanisms for the development of bilateral economic cooperation. On July 2, 2019, a regular meeting of the Tajik-Pakistani intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation was held in Dushanbe.

It should be noted that in the first six months of 2021, there is a gradual recovery in trade between the two countries. During this period trade between the two countries reached  $ 18.9 million, having increased by 6.3 % comparing to the same period of 2020.

At the same time, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are very active.
