Since the first days, the Republic of Tajikistan took all necessary measures aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus in the country. A Task Force was organized at the level of the Government, which consistently addressed all issues related to countering the pandemic and supplying the country's population with food, medicine, and etc.
The address of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon on countering the pandemic, was included in his speech at the first session of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan of the sixth convocation on April 17, 2020.
In particular, the Head of State noted the measures undertaken by the Government to counteract the spread of coronavirus, as well as other additional measures to stimulate the country's socio-economic condition to overcome the consequences of the pandemic.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, inter alia has instructed representatives of the Government and Executive Office of the President to travel to all cities and regions of the country and together with the heads of local authorities and help implement measures to prevent the spread of COVID 19.
Also, by the Decree of the Chairman of the city of Dushanbe aimed at combating the pandemic and protecting public health, convening of all public gatherings on the occasion of the Day of the Capital in Dushanbe were canceled.
On 17 April 2020, taking into account the existing state of play on the spread COVID 19 around the globe, the Council of Ulema of the Islamic Center of the Republic of Tajikistan has introduced a number of restrictive measures. According to its decision, starting 18 April 2020, all collective prayers (five times), Friday prayers and Taraweeh in mosques across the country are suspended until the situation improves. Also, in the month of Ramadan, it will be forbidden to organize all kinds of gatherings - Taraweeh, Iftar, as well as festive celebrations and other events. Citizens who intended to perform the Hajj because of the complete suspension of visits to the Holy Kaaba, Masjid al-Haram, as well as other holy places, could spend their funds accumulated for this purpose on social needs.
The Council of Ulema also advises to strictly comply during fasting and other ceremonies with the recommendations of doctors and introduced measures of the Ministry of health and social protection of the population of Tajikistan, as well as the recommendations of WHO.
