On April 29, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kabul met with the Minister of Economy of Afghanistan Karima Hamid Faryabi.
The IRA Minister of Economy initially expressed his positive impressions of the visit to Tajikistan, participation in the Ninth Summit of Foreign Ministers of the "Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process" and meeting with Tajik counterparts.
During the talks, it was noted that both sides are interested in bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, industry and agriculture, oil and gas, exploration, mining, private and public sector, construction of railways and automobile transport, efficient use of export-oriented regions, manufacturing products (industrial, textile, handicraft, construction, decoration, food, fuel, medical and sports).
It was reminded that during the official visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (March 29-30, 2021) a Protocol of cooperation in various fields was signed between the Ministries of Industry and New Technologies, Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
In addition to the Shiberghan oil and gas field, there is a 31,000-square-kilometer Afghan-Tajik oil field in northern and northeastern Afghanistan (Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh, and Javzjan).
It was noted that in 2014, discussions were held on the establishment of a port in the area of Ayvaj in Tajikistan and in front of it in Afghanistan. During the discussion, the connection of the Shiberghan gas pipeline to the Uzbek-Tajik gas pipeline was proposed, but it was not implemented. Now is the time to discuss this project.
