On July 26, 2021, the Ambassador of Tajikistan Sa'di Sharifi met with the newly appointed Head of the Third Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Mohammad Naeem Pouyesh, at the request of the Afghan side.
Mr. Pouyesh thanked the Tajik government for the reception of Afghan soldiers and civilians who have taken refuge in Tajikistan, as well as the remarks made by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, about the situation in Afghanistan (during a July 22 speech to Tajik officers and soldiers).
He further stressed that after returning from a foreign mission and taking up the post of Head of the Third Political Department of the Ministry (Department of Cooperation with Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China, Central Asia, and the Caucasus), he saw that Tajikistan has the highest importance in Afghanistan's foreign policy.
The Ambassador of Tajikistan, Mr. Sharifi, described the Tajik-Afghan relations as having a strong historical background and many values and generalities and stressed Tajikistan's unchanging policy of supporting the Afghan people in all circumstances. He added that Tajikistan's relation with Afghanistan is under the special attention of President Emomali Rahmon.
Following the meeting, the two sides discussed the process of implementing the action plan of the two countries foreign ministries, other signed documents, as well as documents ready for signing.
