Republic of Tajikistan's relations with the Syrian Arab Republic
The Syrian Arab Republic recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on December 21, 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 29, 1992.
On February 7-10, 2007, Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, paid an official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic, which gave a serious impetus to the process of cooperation between the two countries. During this visit, 8 documents on cooperation between Tajikistan and Syria were signed.
On May 18-20, 2010, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, Walid Al-Muallim, visited the Republic of Tajikistan to participate in the 37th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, and met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon.
Tajik-Syrian relations have been developing in the recent years, especially in the area of humanitarian cooperation. On February 20, 2023, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan sent 55 tons of humanitarian aid consisting of food, medicine, clothes and shoes to the victims of the disastrous earthquake that struck Syria on February 6th of the same year.
Tajikistan and Syria have established good cooperation in the matter of returning Tajik women and children from Syria (family members of former fighters of terrorist organizations).
