On September 22, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr.Sirojiddin Muhriddin, took part and delivered a statement at a High-level side event entitled "Act on Water to Feed the World: Sustainable Water Allocation to Create a Food Secure World for All", which was organized at the initiative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.
During his speech, the Minister expressed his concerns about the current global situation related to food security, the impact of global challenges, including climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and conflicts on food security. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed the importance of water resources for ensuring food security and the improvement of the agricultural sector.
S. Muhriddin noted that Tajikistan pays special attention to the water-food security nexus and makes efforts to include this topic on the agenda of the relevant global platforms. It was also emphasized that the co-chairs of the UN Water Conference 2023, Tajikistan and the Netherlands will make the necessary efforts to discuss this important nexus within the framework of the 2023 Conference.
