Relations of Tajikistan with Georgia

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia were established on August 4, 1994.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Georgia, these relations are building on the principles of mutual trust, friendship, equality and mutual respect.

In the framework of international and regional summits, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan hold a number of meetings with the leaders of Georgia, where a wide range of bilateral relations were discussed.

The legal base of the Tajik-Georgian relations includes the Protocol on Establishing Diplomatic Relations and the two interagency agreements on inter-state calculations and on cooperation in the field of construction. More than a dozen drafts are under consideration of both parties.

The main imported goods from Georgia to Tajikistan are foodstuff, medicine, wood, electrical equipment and furniture.

Economic cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia at the present stage is clearly stated in the joint implementation of the Program of the European Union «TRACECA», aimed at the development of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia. The importance of participation of Tajikistan in this program is that it can open access for Tajikistan to the Trans-European and Trans-Asian Transport Networks of Caucasus and Central Asian countries.

In general, the relationships between the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia have the perspective of further development and strengthening.
