Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium were established on April 29, 1992.
In 2001 the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Kingdom of Belgium, functioning also as the Permanent Mission at the European Union was opened in Brussels. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium is Muzaffar Huseinzoda.
In April 1993 the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Kazakhstan) was opened.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Henri Vantieghem (since March 2022).
Further development of relations with the Kingdom of Belgium as one of the founding countries of the European Union and the residence of its main institutions is of particular importance for Tajikistan.

Inter-parliamentary relations between the two Countries are developing. Memorandum of Understanding between the parliaments of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium was signed and Friendship Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of Belgium and Tajikistan between the Majlisi Namoyandagoni Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium was established.
Cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Kingdom of Belgium is actively developing in the spheres of economy and trade.
The volume of trade between Tajikistan and Belgium in 2024 amounted to 12,3 million US dollars.
In order to strengthen and expand economic and cultural ties, the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Belgium was opened in Dushanbe.
The contractual and legal framework for cooperation between the two states is formed by intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. The Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium signed bilateral documents in the areas of politics, economy, trade, education, healthcare, tourism, etc.
