Relations of Tajikistan with Pakistan

The Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established diplomatic relations on June 6, 1992 and started cooperation in early 1991.

Since February 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is Mr. Ismatullo Nasredin. 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Imran Haider since June 2019.

In 1993, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan opened its Embassy in Dushanbe, which started operating in early 1994.

In 1997, Consulate of the Republic of Tajikistan and on 23 February 2005 the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Islamabad started functioning.

The bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan has been dynamically developing thanks to intense efforts of both parties. During the 27 years of the relationship between the two countries, President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid state, official and working visits to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (1994, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2011, 2015 and 2017).

The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan paid official and working visits to Tajikistan (2-3 June 2002, 28-30 July 2009, 1-2 September 2011, 24 -26 March 2012 and 19-22 June 2018).

Official and working visits of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan took place on December 1998, 29-31 January 2004, 20-21 November 2014 and 8-9 December 2015.

Official and working visits of Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Tajikistan were held on April 2002, 1-2 September 2011 and 11-12 October 2018.

Four rounds of bilateral consultations between Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Tajikistan and Islamic Republic of Pakistan were held in Dushanbe and Islamabad.

The legal framework on bilateral relations between the two states includes more than 55 intergovernmental and sectorial agreements and MOUs.

Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation functions between the two countries, which serves as a key mechanism for the development of bilateral economic cooperation. The Commission conducted 6 sessions to present. The Sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission held in Dushanbe on July 2, 2019.

Tajikistan and Pakistan Business Forum took place in Dushanbe on 18-20 July 2010, 8-9 March 2011 and 24-26 May 2017 in Dushanbe and Islamabad.   

Joint Tajikistan-Pakistan Business Council was established during the State Visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (November 12-13, 2015) and its first meeting was held in Islamabad.

In 2018, the trade turnover between the two countries reached 62 million 547 thousand U.S. dollars, including exports of 10 million 103,4 thousand dollars and imports amounted to 52 million 443,6 thousand U.S. dollars.
