The Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Turkey established diplomatic relations on January 29, 1992.
Since July 2016 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Turkey is Mr. Rajabiyon Mahmadali Davlatsho.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Ali Rifat Köksal since November 2016.
The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Dushanbe was opened on March 22, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan started functioning in Ankara in 1995.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Tajikistan in Istanbul was opened in 2011.
Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries the President of the Republic of Tajikistan has paid official and working visits to the Republic of Turkey (1996, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2012) and the President of Turkey paid official and working visits to the Republic of Tajikistan (September 1995, November 2001, May 2009 and June 2019).
Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey to Dushanbe took place on October 21, 2016 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan paid an official visit to Turkey on 22-23 April 2019.
More than 65 agreements, memorandums and other documents creating favourable conditions for the development of cooperation in the fields of political, economic, trade and investment, educational, cultural and etc. have been signed between the two countries.
The Tajik-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation plays an important role in the trade and economic field. Over the years, 10 meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission were held in Dushanbe and Ankara. Last meeting was held on August 5-6, 2019 in Ankara.
Turkey remains one of the most important economic partners of Tajikistan. The volume of trade between the countries tends to increase. In 2018, the volume of trade amounted to $401.43 million.
The Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Tajikistan plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations. Dozens of projects were implemented in Tajikistan by this Agency.
Between the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of National Education of Turkey was established a permanent Commission. Currently, 4 meetings of the Commission took place.
Cooperation in the field of culture is developing between two countries. The two countries have historical roots and cultural heritage that is closely related to the name of the great thinker Mavlono Jaloliddin Balkhi. The common historical and cultural values of the peoples of the two countries provided favourable opportunities for the further development of relations between Tajikistan and Turkey. In this regard, on the initiative of both parties in Dushanbe on October 19-20, 2018, an International Symposium was held in memory of Mavlono Jaloliddini Balkhi.
