Relations of Tajikistan with India

The Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of India established diplomatic relations on August 28, 1992.

Since May 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of India is Mr. Rahimzoda Sulton Nurmahmadpur. 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Viraj Singh since July 2019.

In 1994, the Republic of India opened its Embassy in Dushanbe.

In 2003 the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in New Delhi started functioning.

The bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India has been dynamically developing thanks to intense efforts of both parties. During the 27 years of the relationship between the two countries, President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid state, official and working visits to the Republic of India (1993, 1995, 2001, 2006, 2012 and 2016).

The President of the Republic of India paid official and working visits to Tajikistan (6-8 September 2009 and 7-9 October 2018).

 The Prime Minister of the Republic of India paid official and working visits to Tajikistan (2003 and 2015).

Official visit of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of India took place on 12-14 May 2015.

Working visits of Foreign Minister of the Republic of India to the Republic of Tajikistan were held on 11-12 September 2014, 11-12 October 2018 and 14-15 June 2019.

Four rounds of bilateral consultations between Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of India were held in Dushanbe and New Delhi.

The legal framework on bilateral relations between the two states includes more than 70 intergovernmental and sectorial agreements and MOUs.

Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation functions between the two countries, which serves as a key mechanism for the development of bilateral economic cooperation. The Commission conducted 10 sessions to present. The Tenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission held in Dushanbe on January 28-29, 2019.

First round of Consular consultations between Tajikistan and India was held in Dushanbe on 7 June 2019.

In 2018, the trade turnover between the two countries reached 23 million 659,3 thousand U.S. dollars.
