Relations of Tajikistan with Japan

Japan recognized the independence of Tajikistan on December 28, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 2 February 1992.
        Diplomatic missions of the two countries are successfully functioning. Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Japan has been functioning since 2007. The current Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Japan is Mr.  Bobozoda Gulomdjon, assumed his duties in October 2009.  The Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe functions since 2002.
         Relations between Tajikistan and Japan are developing continuously since the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1992.
         The basis of the legal framework consists of more than 30 intergovernmental agreements.
         With the aim of further developing mutually beneficial cooperation, the two countries have had a broad exchange of high level mutual visits.
         In order to deepen the multifaceted cooperation with the countries of Central Asia, in particular, ensure regional stability and security as well as the intensification of trade and economic relations, in 2004 Tokyo initiated the organization of a new format of cooperation in the form of a Dialogue "Central Asia plus Japan». In 2007 Dushanbe hosted the third senior officials meeting of the Dialogue member states.
        The 4-th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Dialogue Central Asia plus Japan was held in Tokyo on 9-11 November 2012, and was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Hamrokhon Zarifi. During the visit, Tajik Foreign Minister held meetings with Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Eshihiko Noda, Japan's Foreign Minister Mr. Koichiro Gemba and Vice - President of  JICA Kiyoshi Kodera.
Trade and economic cooperation

         In August 2006 Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) opened its office in Tajikistan. Each year specialists from the Republic of Tajikistan have an opportunity to learn and improve their skills in the educational institutions of Japan.
      On 22 September 2011 the first Tajik-Japanese joint pharmaceutical company "Avvalin" was launched in Kabadiyan district of Khatlon region.
         Trade turnover between the two countries in 2012 reached $ 7 million 757, 3 thousand US dollars, which indicates the gradual development of trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Japan ($ 3 008.3 million in 2011).  During the first 9 months of 2013, bilateral trade reached 2 394.9 mln . US dollars.
