Relations of Tajikistan with Australia

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Australia were established on December 26, 1991.

Since January 31, 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. John William Geering.

In 2010, in the framework of the Conference on Afghanistan in London, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia.

In 2012, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were held in Dushanbe.

In 2013, a delegation of Australia led by the Ambassador on Special Assignments of the Foreign Ministry of this country on counter-terrorism issues, Mr. William Fisher, visited. Meetings were held at the Ministry of the Interior and the National Security Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In 2013, the working visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan to Australia took place. During the visit, he held meetings with the Minister of Trade, as well as with representatives of the state organization for the development of trade AUSTREID. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues and expressed a mutual desire to develop bilateral cooperation.

In 2014, the Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Tajikistan met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan. In the same year, the Australian delegation visited Tajikistan on a business trip. As part of the trip, meetings were held with the leadership of the ministries and departments of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In May 2024, Australia's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mr. Lucien Menton, paid a working visit to Tajikistan. This visit provided an opportunity for the parties to exchange views on the situation in the region and ways of further cooperation.

Also, on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, an invitation was sent to the Prime Minister of Australia to participate in the third high-level international conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”, which was held from 10 to 13 June 2024.

Foreign trade turnover between the countries in 2024 amounted to 738.1 thousand USD.
