Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea were established on April27, 1992.
The Republic of Korea has a diplomatic mission in the Republic of Tajikistan since June 20, 2008.
It should be noted that formed in 2007, the Forum on Cooperation between Central Asia and the Republic of Korea substantially contributes to the development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea. Each year various issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation are discussed in the framework of the Forum.
Trade turnover between the two countries in the first half of 2013 amounted to more than U.S. 28 million.
Political, trade and economic relations between the two countries are based on agreements in the field of mutual trade and investment promotion, waiver of mutual requirements for obtaining visas for the holders of diplomatic and service passports.
On 24-25 May 2005 a working visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon was held to the Republic of Korea. During the visit Mr. Rahmon held meetings with the leadership of the country and had working visits to the offices of major corporations of Korea.
On 3-8 July of 2012 an official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Zarifi took part in the work of the Sixth Forum on Cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Central Asia.
On 3-5 October 2013 delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Zohidov took part in the work of the 7-th Forum for Cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
