Development and revision of Management Plans for sites on the World Heritage and Tentative Lists in Tajikistan

On October 1-4, 2019, in the city of Guliston, at the initiative of the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO, European Union and with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, the UNESCO Cluster Office in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, a training session was held on the development and refinement of management plans for facilities included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and historical and cultural sites from the Provisional List of the Republic of Tajikistan.

 The aim of the 4-day training was to support national and  local stakeholders in the protection and management of World Heritage Sites creating knowledge and understanding of the World Heritage Convention’s concepts and processes; discuss specific issues and challenges faced by the Central Asian States Parties concerning urban development and heritage preservation; enhance communication and collaboration between heritage professionals, authorities and local communities.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants learned to draft a step-by-step road map for the drafting of the Management Plans and received  a better understanding of the World Heritage Convention; the importance of protection of World Heritage properties, and enhanced their awareness, judgment and skills relevant to draft management plans for World Heritage Sites.
