On June 19, 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Takayuki Miyashita.
Тhe parties discussed the development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Japan in various fields and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest. They also discussed cooperation between the two countries in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan expressed his gratitude to Japan for its assistance in the fields of infrastructure, health, sanitation, public welfare, training and skills development within the framework of the Official Development Assistance (ODA).
It was noted that education and development of human resources are one of the priority issues in Tajikistan. Specialists from Tajikistan participate in various training courses in Japan. Positive contribution is brought by the Project for Human Resources Development Scholarship by Japanese Grant Aid (JDS) through capacity building of young specialists in international relations, law, economic and management areas. The activities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were highlighted, which are making significant contribution to the economy and social spheres in Tajikistan.
Following the meeting, a signing ceremony of the Exchange of Notes on mutual understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of Japan on the provision by the Government of Japan of humanitarian assistance to Tajikistan in the fight against Covid-19 under the "Economic and Social Development Program" was held. Exchange Notes have been signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Takayuki Miyashita.
