Participation of the delegation of Tajikistan in the session of the General Conference of UNESCO

These days the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO Sirojiddin Muhriddin, including the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan Zulfiya Davlatzoda, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan Farhod Rahimi, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Tajikistan to UNESCO, Ambassador Jamoliddin Ubaidullo and Secretary General of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO Zulfiya Burkhon takes part in the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO at the headquarters of the Organization in Paris.

It should be noted that more than 25 heads of state and government, as well as other high-ranking representatives of countries of the world, are participating in this session and side events on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of UNESCO, despite the difficult period of the coronavirus pandemic in the world and the region.

Today, 9 November, on the first day of the next General Conference, it was inaugurated by its Temporary President (President of the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference Mr. Ahmet Altay Cengizer), and the Chairperson of the Executive Board Mr. Agapito Mba Mokuy and the Director-General of UNESCO Ms. Audrey Azoulay addressed the session at its outset. Subsequently, the Permanent Delegate of Brazil to UNESCO Mr. Santiago Irazabal Mourão was elected to the post of President of the 41st General Conference, and new Vice-Presidents of the General Conference of UNESCO, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and rapporteurs of Commissions and Committees were also elected. During the meeting, the report of the Director-General of UNESCO on the activities of the Organization in 2018-2020 was also heard.

It should be noted that in the afternoon of November 9, following the elections, Ms. Audrey Azoulay was re-appointed as Director-General of UNESCO for a second term, after which, following the opening speeches of the Chairperson of the Executive Board and Director-General of UNESCO, General Policy Debate began with the participation of heads of delegations of member countries of the Organization.

The 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris will last until 24 November.
