Briefing on the theme of the UN Conference on the mid-term review of the goals of the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028"

On November 24, 2022, the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Office of the Permanent Coordinator of the UN in Ankara held a briefing on the topic of the UN Conference on the mid-term review of the goals for the International Decade of Action "Water for sustainable development, 2018-2028" in the UN Mission to the Republic of Turkiye.

Ambassador of Tajikistan Ashrafjon Gulov, Ambassador of the Netherlands Joep Winands, Permanent Coordinator of the UN Alvaro Rodriguez, Permanent Coordinator of the UN in Tajikistan Sezin Sinanoglu and Ambassador Aishe Berris Ekinji participated and spoke at the opening ceremony.

During his speech, A. Gulov provided brief information about the UN Water Conference in 2023, which will be held in New York on March 22-24, 2023. At the same time, the head of the delegation introduced the participants to the global initiatives of the Founder of National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan

H.E. Emomali Rahmon in the field of water, especially the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028". It was noted that, along with this initiative, another proposal of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to establish the International Foundation for the Protection of Glaciers and to declare 2025 as the "International Year of Glacier Protection" is being fully implemented.

At the same time, officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities of Tajikistan and the Netherlands delivered presentations on the content of the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028", the process of preparation for the conference, program, concept, as well as other aspects of it.

Within the scope of 2 separate panels of the event, there was an exchange of views related to the opportunities and problems of water and climate, green energy, and the expectations of the parties from the aforementioned conference.

In total, more than 120 people, including employees of the diplomatic corps based in Turkiye, officials of Tajik embassies in foreign countries and experts in the field of water and climate from Tajikistan, Turkiye and Holland participated both in presence and virtual forms.

After the briefing, the ambassador gave an interview to the "Anadolu" Information Agency on the topic of the international initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E Emomali Rahmon, in connection with the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028" and the organizational work of the Conference UN water was held in 2023.
