Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Turkey

The Republic of Turkey recognized the independence of Tajikistan on January 29, 1992 as one of the first countries and established diplomatic relations with our country. The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Dushanbe was opened in 1992, and in 1995, the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan was opened in Ankara.

First, in 1995, the President of the Republic of Turkey Suleyman Demiler visited Tajikistan and met with the top leadership of Tajikistan with the aim of expanding cooperation and laying the foundation for future relations. This visit at that difficult situation of our country was a sign of the agreement of parties to expand bilateral cooperation.

In 1996, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a return visit to the Republic of Turkey, which was the next step in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation after the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies.

Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in the framework of the ECO Summit. A wide range of issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey, the situation in the world and the region have been considered at the meeting.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon also received the Prime Minister, heads of ministries and departments of the Republic of Turkey, emphasizing that the current opportunities and conditions should be used effectively and for the benefit of both sides to achieve significant development in all areas of cooperation. In 2021, the foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Republic of Turkey will amount to 390.5 mln. USD.

In general, in 2007-2021, more than 221 mln. USD (2% of the total inflow of foreign capital) Turkish capital, including 124 mln. USD (2.2% of the total inflow of foreign direct investment) attracted. According to these indicators, Turkey ranked 14th and 9th among foreign countries in Tajikistan.

The Tajik-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation plays an important role in the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, and to date 11 meetings of the Commission have been held in Dushanbe and Ankara.

The supreme example of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey is the establishment of a Joint venture for packaging and production of buses "Akia Avesto Electronics Industry", which was held in Dushanbe with the direct participation of President Emomali Rahmon. The company produces passenger buses based on international standards, which are currently widely used on domestic routes.

At the same time, the opening and good operation of the Coca-Cola Water Supply Enterprise is also considered to be the result of cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey, and today these plants make a significant contribution to the development of production and industry.

In 2018, in the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan launched the production enterprise "Archa Mebel", which was also built in the framework of effective cooperation between Tajik and Turkish entrepreneurs at a cost of 9 million Somoni with modern technology. The company is engaged in the production of various types of furniture for homes, workshops, kindergartens, educational institutions and other purposes.

Cultural cooperation between the two countries has deep roots in history. Tajikistan and Turkey have a common cultural heritage, which is closely linked with the name of the great thinker and world personality Mavlono Jaloliddin Balkhi. On this basis, on the initiative of both sides, an international scientific symposium entitled "Mavlono - the link between peoples and civilizations" dedicated to the birthday of this outstanding thinker was held in Dushanbe on October 19-20, 2018.
