Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Tajikistan and Iran

A meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin and the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif was held on March 30, 2021 in Dushanbe on the sidelines of the Ninth Conference of Ministers of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process.

In the meeting, both Sides expressed their interest in expanding the development of bilateral political, trade, economic and cultural relations. The strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, in particular the strengthening of inter-parliamentary friendship groups of Tajikistan and Iran, as well as cooperation in the framework of regional and international organizations were discussed.

Referring to the role of the Joint Commission for Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Partnership between Tajikistan and Iran in expanding cooperation, they emphasized on the need to implement the agreements reached during the virtual meeting of the 13th session of the Joint Commission and the proper preparation for the 14th session of the Joint Commission in the first half of this year. In this context, the importance of increasing the bilateral trade volume was noted.

In addition, the sides discussed the issues of full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the principles and framework of bilateral cooperation in the field of security.
