Bilateral relations of Tajikistan with Austria

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Austria were established on March 25, 1992.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Austria (with residence in Vienna) is Kalandar Idibek

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Tajikistan (with residence in Astana) is Ms. Andrea Bacher.

At the first stage of relations between Tajikistan and Austria, after the establishment of diplomatic relations, a number of high-level meetings and negotiations took place, including between the heads of foreign policy departments, during which the main directions of relations between the two countries were discussed.

In 2011, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to Austria.

In 2013, the Federal President of the Republic of Austria H.E. Mr. Heinz Fischer paid an official visit to Tajikistan.

Political consultations and work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic issues as an important mechanism for strengthening multifaceted relations.

The inter-parliamentary ties between the two states at the stage of development.

The total volume of foreign trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Republic of Austria in 2024 amounted to 24,3 mil. US dollars.

Legal framework of bilateral relations consists of more than 14 intergovernmental and inter-ministerial documents.

On march 25, 2022 the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, exchanged congratulatory telegrams on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Since 1972 Dushanbe and Klagenfurt have been sister cities.

The Parties shall also cooperate within the framework of international organizations.
