Joint Briefing on the Dushanbe Conference by Permanent Mission of Tajikistan and UNOCT

On September 14, 2022, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held a joint virtual briefing on the upcoming High-Level International Conference on "International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”, to be held on 18-19 October 2022 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

During the event, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN, Jonibek Hikmat, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Director of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, provided detailed information on the program and organizational-protocol arrangements as well as on the initiatives and efforts of the Republic of Tajikistan in this direction and the " Dushanbe process on combating terrorism and its financing”.

The Permanent Representative expressed confidence that the Dushanbe Conference will give a new impetus to the joint fight against security threats and that the “Dushanbe Process on Countering Terrorism” will serve as an important platform for constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation among all stakeholders to strengthen international and regional security.

Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism highlighted the valuable role of the Government of Tajikistan in strengthening multilateral cooperation against terrorism, including through its collaboration with UNOCT.

More than 90 participants, including representatives of UN member states and international experts, participated in the briefing.

The Permanent Representatives of Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Spain, Sri-Lanka, Kiribati, and delegates from Saudi Arabia, China, Morocco, and the European Union made interventions and underscored the significant contribution of international initiatives of the Government of Republic of Tajikistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism and called the initiative of our country to hold a high-level international conference timely.

At the end of the briefing, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations and the Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office called on Member States to ensure high-level participation of their delegations in the event.
