Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral and multilateral ties between Tajikistan and Moldova have been built according to the parameters characteristic of relations between the former Soviet republics in the post-soviet period of their development.

In November 2002, the President of the Republic of Moldova made an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. Following the visit, interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents were signed, which are the basis for the establishment of multilateral cooperation between the countries.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan had a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of the Republic of Moldova in the course of the CIS summits, during which various aspects of intensifying bilateral cooperation were discussed.
In September 2018, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan met with the President of the Republic of Moldova, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the CIS summit. During the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in the establishment of bilateral relations, in such areas as economy, agriculture, transportation, education and tourism.
In October 2019, the heads of state held a bilateral meeting within the framework of the CIS Heads of State Summit in Ashgabat. The main topic of discussion between the parties was the economy and trade relations between Tajikistan and Moldova. Interest was expressed in increasing trade volumes and establishing exports of dried fruits and honey to Moldova, joint development of livestock breeding, veterinary medicine and exchange of experience in growing grapes.
On January 26, 2023, the countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In order to expand and develop Tajik-Moldovan cooperation, in March 2023, inter-ministerial political consultations at the level of heads of structural units of the two countries and interdepartmental consultations on inventory of Tajik-Moldovan legal framework were held in the online format.
Foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Republic of Moldova for January-December 2024 amounted to 809.2 thousand US dollars.
An important coordinating element in the development of cooperation is the Intergovernmental Tajik-Moldovan commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, established in 2004. Four meetings of the Commission have been held, the last one in April 2023 in the format of videoconference, during which the issues of the current state of cooperation, as well as prospects of interaction in economic, trade, scientific-technical and humanitarian spheres were considered.
On November 13, 2024 a virtual meeting of the leadership of the Chamber of commerce and industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Chamber of commerce and industry of the Republic of Moldova was held, during which the issue of holding bilateral exhibitions was discussed.
Relations with the Republic of Moldova are based on the closeness of positions of the parties on certain international problems, there is a constant support of each other's initiatives within the framework of regional and international organizations.
