On November 26, 2018 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Mrs. Olga Algaerova.
During the meeting, Olga Algaerova got acquainted with the priorities of Tajikistan and cooperation with the Commission. The Commission is expected to assist the Government of Tajikistan in implementing the National Development Strategy. The Commission was invited to participate in the implementation of projects in our country in the field of trade development, water management, environmental protection and transport. The UN Special Program for Central Asia (SPECA) was also mentioned separately.
The role of the Commission is important in the presentation of innovations and the use of new technologies. Given the fact that Tajikistan recently adopted a new initiative on the production and use of “green” energy, this initiative was presented to the Commission.
In turn, Executive Secretary Olga Algaerova expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Tajikistan, and also expressed satisfaction with the efforts of our country to achieve sustainable development goals. The Executive Secretary was assured that the Commission would support the implementation of Tajikistan’s initiatives, including food security, trade and energy support. Olga Algaerova also welcomed the initiative of our country regarding the development of “green” energy and expressed the Commission’s readiness to jointly implement all initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed that the relevant institutions of our country will submit their proposals for joint implementation.
