High level Side Event “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime”

On 27 September 2019 on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York there was held a High-level Side Event entitled ““International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime” organized by the initiative of Tajikistan.

The event was organized in collaboration with Canada, Qatar, Peru, Spain, Kazakhstan, the United Nations Department of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Organized Crime (UNODC) and chaired by Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin. The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 50 member-states and international organizations.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Qohir Rasulzoda and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Office, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, delivered statements at the opening ceremony. The ministers of foreign affairs of Hungary and Kyrgyzstan, the Spanish Secretary of state, deputy foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, the Philippines and special envoys on counter-terrorism from Qatar, Indonesia and other high-level representatives from the UN member states also addressed the meeting. Most of the participants commended the results of the Dushanbe Conference and noted the contribution of Tajikistan in this area.

In his statement, Mr. Qohir Rasulzoda briefed the participants on the outcomes of the High-level International Conference “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime” held in Dushanbe on 16-17 May 2019. The Prime Minister also highlighted the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan in countering the international terrorism, transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking.
