On May 27, 2020 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with a newly appointed UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan Osama Makkawi.
The parties discussed the issue of prevention of spread of the novel coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Tajikistan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of timely delivering of 64 tons of personal protective equipments to Tajikistan organized by UNICEF aimed at increasing the capacity of the country's health sector to respond to this disease and thanked UNICEF on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan for its assistance. The parties also exchanged views on planned measures to ensure effective prevention and control of infectious diseases, the training of medical personnel, as well as the purchase of necessary medical equipments for the Ministry of health and social protection to fight COVID-19.
During the conversation the sides also touched upon issues of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and UNICEF, the implementation of bilateral projects in the country, and the prospects of mutual cooperation.
At the end, the Minister of Foreign Affairs wished the UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan every success in his work.
