On 28 May 2020 the High-Level Event on Financing for Development in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond convened by the Governments of Canada, Jamaica, and the UN Secretary-General.

The event consisted of two parts – High-level Segment and High-level Panel in which Heads of State and Governments and leaders from intergovernmental financial institutions delivered statements. During the High-level Segment Heads of State and Governments expressed their views on facilitating global solutions in reducing the global economic implication and its impacts on vulnerable people.

The Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Qohir Rasulzoda, participating in the high-level segment, emphasized that the world community faced with serious and complex tasks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the solution of which requires joint efforts and the mobilization of available resources and stressed that in this regard the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan established a Governmental Task Force and an Interagency Working Group in order to prevent and reduce the consequences of the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The Prime Minister also noted that the outbreak of coronavirus has caused the temporary closure of borders with neighboring countries and disrupted trade and transport communications, which slowed down the process of implementation of major investment projects in the country.

In addition, the Prime Minister Rasulzoda stressed the negative impact of coronavirus for the country and emphasized the need to review the external debt of developing countries, and also thanked the UN agencies and development partners for their assistance.
