Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in a High-level event dedicated to water, sanitation and climate

On May 29, 2020 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in a High-level joint event entitled “Accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda through water, sanitation and climate action”, which was organized by the initiative of the Permanent Missions of Canada, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore and Tajikistan to the UN and the UN Department of Social and Economic Affairs, as well as support of the UN-Water via video-conferencing.

During his speech the Minister of Foreign Affairs, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic and its negative impact on social and economic life of countries, as well as climate change and its consequences on the fauna and flora, called on all parties to strengthen cooperation for an effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030.

The Minister also noted the importance of preservation and rational use of water resources in the region and drew the attention of participants to the global water initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, which would contribute to the promotion and implementation of the water related Sustainable Development Goals.

Besides, Tajik Foreign Minister outlined the priority areas for Tajikistan’s interaction within the UN and, mentioning the current epidemiological situation in the world, emphasized the need to increase cooperation and partnership of the parties at all levels.
